Holiday Giving

Help make this holiday brighter for those we serve:

Grassroots traditionally provides gifts for about 80 families each year including more than 100 children. Due to COVID-19 concerns, we will be having a GIFT CARD ONLY Holiday Giving Drive. Gift cards in $10, $20, and $25 or $50 amounts to Walmart, Target, and Amazon (physical cards only, digital cards) would allow individuals to select toys, clothing, and accessories for their families.

In order to allocate these gifts in a timely manner to our community residents, we are asking for the cards to be delivered by Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

In addition, we can also use gift cards for grocery stores and gas stations throughout the year to assist community members in need, particularly during these uncertain times.

Thank you for considering these alternative gifts to help us safeguard the health and well-being of our most vulnerable community members. We want you to know that we record incoming and outgoing gift cards for accountability and auditing purposes. For more information and to coordinate gift card deliveries please contact Monteith Mitchell, Volunteer Coordinator, at or (410) 531-6006.

Winter Accessories Drive

We have an overabundance of socks and instead suggest the following

  • New gloves for children and adults (particularly men’s gloves in larger sizes) packed in individual clear plastic bags.
  • New underwear in original packaging or with tags for children and adults of all ages and sizes (larger sizes for adults in particular, e.g., XL, and 2XL). Please put in clear plastic bags any that are not already in plastic packaging.

Information for Grassroots Patrons

For the first time in our holiday giving history, we are not holding an event for the people we serve due to COVID-19 health and safety precautions and will be providing gift cards instead of gifts to choose from. However, we plan to assist individuals and families in need as best we can and the number of gift cards available will depend on the donations received.

Signups for holiday assistance will begin at 10am on Monday, December 7 and will be accepted through Monday, December 14 or until all of the spots are filled. To register contact Monteith Mitchell at (410) 531-6006 or

Best wishes to you and yours during this unique holiday season!
