Reservoir and River Hill High Schools Hold Change Challenge for Grassroots

Local high school raises awareness and funds for 24-hour crisis intervention center.

GoHawksReservoir High School recently sponsored a Change Challenge against River Hill High School to raise money for Grassroots, Howard County’s 24-7 crisis intervention center and shelter for the homeless. The students raised $577, with Reservoir raising the most money and winning the football game. The fundraising was led by students from the schools’ Leadership classes.

The challenge is one of many activities by high school students involved in Change Matters, the student initiative to raise awareness and financial support for crisis services in the community. During this school year, Howard County high school students are encouraging their peers to “Don’t Do Nothing” when they witness others in distress. Grassroots provides free counseling and operates a 24-hour crisis hotline at 410-531-6677.

River Hill students participating in the Change Challenge included (from l.) Sanjay Mysore, Thaddeus Harold, Patrick Mikulis, Lauren Bae, Hannah Lee and Lauren Scrandis.
