Grassroots has been awarded ACCESS grant funding from the Maryland Department of Health’s Behavioral Health Administration to conduct harm reduction work that ensures the safety of those who use drugs, ultimately preventing overdoses. Harm reduction is an evidence-based approach that is critical to engaging with people who use drugs and equipping them with life-saving tools and information to create positive change in their lives and potentially save their lives.
Through this new grant, Grassroots is able to enhance our Peer Recovery Specialist support and continue providing in-person and online Narcan/naloxone training, access to substance test kits including fentanyl and xylazine test strips, overdose education and counseling on harm reduction strategies and resources, as well as specialized trainings focused on stigma, trauma, opioid use and other critical topics. Peer Recovery Specialists are individuals with lived experience overcoming addiction who help consumers with assessments, counseling, connection to treatment and understanding harm reduction strategies.
Grassroots provides free, 24-hour substance use disorder (SUD) services, including access to screening, brief intervention & referral to treatment, along with full assessment, short-term withdrawal management and counseling to individuals throughout Maryland.
