Grassroots Hosts Fifth Annual Suicide Symposium on Sept. 11th

The 5th Annual Suicide Prevention Symposium sponsored by Grassroots is set for Thursday, Sept. 11, from noon-4:30 p.m., at the Robinson Nature Center in Columbia. The schedule for the Symposium is as follows:

12:00: Registration and Lunch

12:30-1:45: From Suicide to Hope  A suicide attempt survivor shares his experience with mental illness, suicide, recovery, and hope. Presenter: Erik Meininger

2:00-3:15: Means Matters: Suicide, Guns and Public Health Most efforts to prevent suicide focus on why people take their lives. But as we understand more about who attempts suicide and when, where, and why, it becomes increasingly clear that how a person attempts–the means they use–plays a key role in whether they live or die.  Presenter: Edgar Wiggins, MPH

3:30-4:30: Survivors of Suicide Loss: A Panel Discussion  Panelists will share their personal stories of losing a loved one to suicide, followed by questions from the audience.   Panelists: Sue Holko, Monica Schneider Tristan, and Bryn Adams.   Moderator: Nicole DeChirico
